At Girls Leadership, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is the foundation of everything we do. To meet the social and emotional needs of girls and gender-expansive youth, we center gender and racial equity in all of our work, addressing the internal and external barriers to leadership development. Our private professional development training is for teachers, administrators, counselors, community-based organization staff, and all youth development professionals who want to create spaces and systems that support girls and gender-expansive youth in using the power of their voice. When our most marginalized students belong–girls and gender-expansive youth, students of color, and LGBTQ+ students–then every student benefits.
Program Offerings:
Girls Leadership provides a series of gender and racial-equity-centered training modules for youth development professionals. These 2-hour training modules can take place in person or virtually, and can be customized to your school or organization. Our team will work closely with you to identify a professional learning plan that best meets the needs of your community.
All of our training modules include resources you can use right away in classrooms, teams, and other educational settings. This curriculum, with gender and culturally-responsive SEL lessons, provides suggested sequences, handouts, and materials developed specifically for grades 5-8, adaptable to grades K-12.
1) Brave Space Groundwork
What is a brave space? Participants will learn the skills to create environments of mutual accountability, growth, and understanding.
2) Culturally Responsive Mindsets
Cultural differences are opportunities for greater understanding and connection, but only if we recognize and appreciate them.
3) Bias Intervention
We all have biases – and we can all reduce the role they play in our lives.
4) Addressing Compassion Fatigue
Compassion fatigue is not inevitable or irreparable.
5) Healing-Centered Engagement
Shifting the way we engage with trauma can make it easier to address it.
