Reporting to the Co-CEOs, the Director of Finance & Human Resources will oversee all aspects of our financial accounting systems, compliance documentation and reporting, and ensure the financial health of the organization while providing financial insights to the leadership team. Additionally this role oversees Human Resources including payroll, and employee benefits management and compliance. The Director of Finance & Human Resources will support and train employees on budget and expense management as well as accessing worker’s compensation and applicable state benefits.
Responsibilities:
- Perform day-to-day accounting activities, such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, posting journal entries, drafting bank reconciliations, review of general ledger accounts, and various reporting and analysis.
- Establish, monitor and enforce a comprehensive set of internal controls, establish policies and procedures around accounting and financial related issues.
- Run bi-weekly payroll review and approval.
- Manage Girl Leadership benefit programs.
- Prepare various monthly and annual financial reports including cash-flow statements
- Execute all financial record keeping and reporting including accurate and timely month and year-end close.
- Lead in the preparation of tax returns, annual external audit, and other special projects.
- Oversee outsourced accounting to ensure accurate financial records, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Review work of outside accounting personnel for completeness, accuracy, and compliance as well as assisting with accounting issues.
- Provide financial insights and reporting to leadership and the Board to drive decision-making.
- Continually make recommendations for improving business practices, accounting processes and systems that support business growth goals and new initiatives.
- Ensure regulatory compliance, tax filings, and audits are seamless.
- Maintain all required government and tax licenses and annual renewals
- Project manage the development of the annual departmental budgets as well as budget versus actual reporting.
Skills and Experiences Required:
- Minimum of five years of experience in an accounting or finance role
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field, or equivalent experience and certifications
- Experience in nonprofit financial management including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls
- Understanding of relevant laws and regulations related to HR, financial management, and nonprofit compliance.
- Accounting and Financial Expertise: Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial statements, and financial regulations
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and make recommendations
- Management Skills:
- Experience managing external accounting firms and annual audit processes
- Experience managing external benefits company
- Ability to support and communicate effectively with employees regarding team budgets and HR benefits
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate financial information clearly and effectively to both internal and external stakeholders
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve financial issues and challenges.
- Software and Application Proficiency:
- Familiarity with accounting software and other relevant tools (i.e. Quickbooks, Excel/Google Sheets, Bill.com, Expensify)
- Payroll and benefits management (ADP, BenefitZone)
Compensation & Benefits: The salary for this position is $75,000 at 30 hours a week. Benefits for full time employees (30 hour or more per week) includes health insurance coverage (99% coverage for employee), optional dental/vision, annual professional development budget, accrued vacation time, sick leave, 11 paid holidays and two 2-week paid organizational closures (December/July) and a 401(k) plan available after one year of employment.
