In this professional development workshop, we’ll explore what youth serving professionals have told us they need most right now: practical strategies for creating brave spaces and centering students’ social-emotional learning needs.

Receive the following four lessons you can use right away to nurture warm and authentic partnerships with youth and center racial and gender inclusion in social-emotional learning. The lessons include:

  • Generating community agreements
  • Identifying comfort zones
  • Modeling vulnerability through a hot seat activity
  • Guiding youth to explore what makes them unique.

Participants will:

  • Define what a “brave space” is and explore best practices for creating one in the spaces where you serve youth
  • Engage with activities and use practices, lessons, and activities that cultivate a brave space for youth
  • Identify how brave spaces foster community, build accountability, and promote healing

A foundational piece of our work at Girls Leadership is creating brave spaces — communities where girls feel seen and accepted by peers and adults — in person and online. Brave spaces are crucial because they allow for vulnerability, the courage to take risks, mess up, reflect, and recover, all while still belonging in the community. All of us can learn and grow as humans and leaders if we have supportive relationships that give us the ability to be brave.

This experiential module will equip educators with lessons, instructional practices, and mindsets to create brave spaces for their youth.

Brave Space Groundwork and all Girls Leadership curriculum are co-created with girls and developed by Girls Leadership’s training and curriculum experts to equip youth-serving professionals with the tools to bring the curriculum to life with youth. Rooted in the voices and experiences of girls, the curriculum has been tested with educators and students to ensure it meets their needs and supports meaningful and inclusive communities.
