Carolyn Tyler has been one of the trailblazing African American female journalists in the Bay Area. She was an anchor/reporter at KGO TV/ABC7 for 32 years until retiring in October. SF Mayor London Breed proclaimed October 4th “Carolyn Tyler Day” in the city and county of San Francisco. Carolyn received several Emmy nominations for her work including a report on the city’s homeless crisis and one for a series on Bay Area students’ travels down South to meet the unsung heroes of the Civil Rights movement.
Along with her colleagues at ABC7, Carolyn shares the highest awards in the news business: a Peabody and an Edward R. Murrow for work covering the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake. Last year in recognition of her body of work over 3 decades, the Society of Professional Journalists honored her with the 2018 Career Achievement Award.
