New York Program Manager Job Description

Girls Leadership is seeking a part-time (20 hours/week) Program Manager for our New York (NY) region. The NY Program Manager will report to the NY Regional Director and is a member of the Program Department. Primary job responsibilities include providing management, coaching and support to our NY team of educators, and collaborating on curriculum development to meet the needs of participants from diverse backgrounds.

 

The NY Program Manager will:

70% – Provide program management, coaching, support, and evaluation for the NY Region

  • Support educator recruitment and retention in the region. This includes hiring, training, onboarding, curriculum coaching and management of 15-20 NY educators in the region;
  • Conduct workshop preparation calls with educators, observations and debriefs;
  • Schedule educators for workshops. This includes working closely with the NY Regional Director and outreach support to determine educator availability, and responding to educator substitutions, if necessary;
  • Co-develop and facilitate professional development training to support educators;
  • Manage the NY team of educators through building community, regular communication and follow-up;
  • Hold educators accountable for administrative tasks;
  • Support training and implementation of Parent Education presentations in the region;
  • Manage program evaluations in the region, including annual educator reviews;

 

20% – Develop, collaborate on, and support programming and curriculum to meet the needs of girls, particularly girls of color and girls from low-income communities

  • Be experienced in arts-integrated, culturally responsive curriculum and content design;
  • Conduct needs assessments to listen to girls, parents, caregivers, and educators from across the socioeconomic spectrum to develop programming that meets the needs of various communities;
  • Develop new and modify existing curriculum utilizing design thinking practices to design programming for girls and grown-ups;

 

10% – Support National team and the NY Regional team and events

  • Engage in Program Department and all-staff meetings;
  • Participate in and record minutes for Girls Leadership NY board meetings;
  • Assist with and provide support for Girls Leadership NY events;
  • Attend all-staff retreat in Oakland, CA in the fall.

 

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate:

  • Passionate about girls’ empowerment and leadership, across lines of difference
  • Experience facilitating or developing culturally responsive curricula and programs
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed strategies and practices
  • Recent K-5 classroom experience, including experience teaching and/or working with youth from low-income communities
  • Experience coaching educators
  • Works with high attention to detail and can manage multiple tasks and competing priorities
  • Is a self-motivated, resourceful, creative and strategic thinker, comfortable working independently with high personal accountability
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills, including cross-cultural communications.
  • Demonstrates social and emotional intelligence

Preferred qualifications:

  • Background in Educational Theater and/or arts-integrated education
  • Experience organizing and conducting educational focus groups and/or needs assessment with community-based organizations or K-12 youth from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience with design thinking practices
  • Experience developing and facilitating adult professional development trainings
  • Experience working with and communicating effectively with parent communities
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English)
  • Advanced degree in education or similar field

 

Ideal Start Date: September 1, 2019

 

Compensation: This is a part-time, 20-hour/week position at a rate of $30-31/hour, depending on experience.
