Natali Rivers was born and raised in New York City and has always had a healthy passion for the arts, particularly theatre. Her amazing experiences with arts education sparked her interest in youth development, particularly in low-income communities and communities of color. As someone who benefitted from resources that were not always readily available where she grew up, she wanted to help facilitate those pathways for others. To that end, she has been involved through roles as an academic educator, teaching artist, speaker and volunteer.
After receiving her degree in journalism and sociology from Brooklyn College, Natali was a freelance writer for Uptown magazine before joining Harlem Children’s Zone as a Curriculum Coordinator for their Writing Corps team. There, she created and facilitated curricula that engaged students’ lived experiences to develop literacy and critical thinking, and explore the power of their own voice. Her professional and personal experiences have led her to want to focus on young women’s development, and she is thrilled to begin that journey with Girls Leadership. In her spare time, Natali has her hands in a number of creative projects, including a blog and a web series.
