Michele Kwok is the Assistant Director for the Regional Benefits Office of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in Oakland, California. Since 2012, she has been leading a staff of over 300 employees who serve 154,000 Veterans and beneficiaries in 44 Northern California counties. She is responsible for strategic planning and operations that deliver $195 million in monthly benefits, specifically in compensation and vocational rehabilitation and employment services.
Michele joined the VA over 25 years ago under the Outstanding Scholar Program after graduating with Honors from Portland State University with a BS in Psychology. Having worked in VA’s Central Office in Washington, D.C., she is well-adept in policy planning, program management, and building strong relationships with stakeholders. She is passionate about engaging Veterans and employees alike. Michele enjoys mentoring emerging leaders with an emphasis on developing their emotional intelligence. She is a compassionate and effective executive who delivers results with exceptional customer service.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Michele and her husband enjoy traveling, entertaining, and raising their two children in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is an active volunteer in her children’s school and has been a strong advocate for Girls Leadership in her community. She has participated in three Girls Leadership workshops and formed a parent-daughter book club which has been active for two years.
