Megan Armstrong

Megan joins Girls Leadership with over 25 years of experience in education. She holds a Bachelors degree from the University of Vermont with a major in Art Education and minor in Studio Art, and a Masters degree from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Megan began her teaching career as the Lower School Art Teacher at Hamlin School, where she worked with K- 4th grade girls. She left the classroom to study adolescent identity development and the psychology of girls and women at Harvard, and while she was there, laid the foundation for her San Francisco based non-profit, Bay Area Girls Center (now known as GirlVentures). When her daughter was born and it was hard to leave her to spend weeks camping in the woods as an instructor, Megan decided to stay closer to home and opened Mountain Yoga, a neighborhood studio in Oakland. While she absolutely loved teaching yoga to people of all ages, Megan missed working with girls, so she sold her yoga studio after 8 years, and went back to teaching. She now divides her time between guest teaching at Julia Morgan School for Girls, and teaching workshops with Girls Leadership. When she’s not working with girls and parents, Megan moonlights as a vocalist in a local Rock and Roll band, and works in her vegetable garden. Megan lives with her 12 year old daughter and her husband on the edge of Redwood Regional Park in Oakland.
