Maureen Bates


With 13 years of teaching experience in schools on the East coast, Maureen brings a passion for education and a lifelong love of learning to Girls Leadership.

She holds a double certification as a K-12 reading specialist and a K-6 classroom teacher.  At the New Jersey school where she teaches, Maureen is co-chair of the social emotional learning committee, and she helps other teachers put Responsive Classroom practices into action.  Outside of her classroom, she is also pursuing a certificate in School Leadership for Social-Emotional Learning and Positive School Climate and Culture through Rutgers University.  She holds a bachelor of arts degree in biology, summa cum laude, from Boston College and a master of science in Reading/Writing/Literacy education from the University of Pennsylvania.

Maureen loves the beach, reading, being with her nieces and nephews, drinking coffee, and traveling to new places.
