Frances Lee

Senior Development Director

Frances Lee (she/her/hers) joins Girls Leadership with over 16 years of experience in nonprofit development and communications, working at arts and youth development organizations of all sizes. Her background includes leadership roles at Girls on the Run of the Bay Area, Little Opera, MyPath, Summer Search, and the Young@Heart Chorus. Frances has also worked as an independent consultant, providing development and strategic planning support to nonprofit clients across California.

As a first-generation Korean-American, Frances grounds her work in equity and social justice. She is a member of the Community Centric Fundraising movement, which reexamines fundraising philosophies to prioritize communities of color and promote more inclusive practices. In her youth, formative experiences in the performing arts and sports taught her the transformative power of supportive communities, inspiring her commitment to addressing systemic inequities and empowering girls of color to exercise their voice and leadership.

Before her nonprofit career, Frances was a musician and teaching artist. She taught piano, flute, and voice in afterschool programs, summer camps, and her private studio. She studied music education and flute performance at the University of Southern California and California State University, Los Angeles. Frances continues to pursue her passion for music as a vocalist with amateur Bay Area groups, including the San Francisco Bach Choir, where she serves as Board President. Frances enjoys life in San Francisco and Sebastopol with her partner and their dog, Toby. She sings, attends live music events, tends her vegetable garden, and travels with friends and family.
