Deria is originally from Montgomery County, Maryland, and a recent graduate of New York University where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Race and Public Policy. The stark economic and racial disparities that weigh heavily on communities of color in NYC have become increasingly apparent to her and she has committed herself to bringing more resources to these families. She is most passionate about the magicness that is black and brown girls, and she works to make sure spaces are created for their voices to be heard. She has worked at Sadie Nash Leadership Project mentoring high school aged women in Newark, NJ and now currently works with Girls for Gender Equity to bring after school leadership programming to middle school youth in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. She is super excited about getting to know the women of Genesis Homes through the Girls Leadership Parent/Daughter workshops, and is ready for the next few months of community building! When not working, Deria is sleeping, reading, watching Netflix and eating a big bag of kettle corn.
