April is excited to be a part of Girls Leadership’s expansion into New Jersey! She is a dedicated elementary school teacher in the scenic bayshore community of Atlantic Highlands, in Monmouth County. April is passionate about her work with children to help them become critical thinkers. April has BA in Communication and Theatre from The University of North Carolina- Greensboro, her grandmother’s alma mater, class of 1924! After college she traveled the world as a flight attendant and spent time in cool places like Japan, Ecuador, Turkey, and Alaska. 9/11/01 changed everything and she was soon back in school, working on another BA, this time in Elementary Education from The Richard Stockton College of NJ and then a MLIS from Rutgers. April’s exciting new path allowed her the opportunity to work as a teacher and school librarian, and take on an officer position in both the teachers’ and school library associations. She is starting her 4th year teaching 2nd grade and brings her love of theater and a global awareness to the classroom everyday. April credits her abilities as a leader and her interest in empowering girls and women to her mother, an early feminist and an amazing role model for all women. She can be found practicing yoga, watching independent movies, reading, playing outdoors, finding a new place to visit, or spending time with her pets.
