Emily Wittig

Emily is excited to join Girls Leadership as a kindergarten teacher from Iowa who loves to laugh, play and learn alongside children every single day.  Rooted in the Midwest, Emily has a craving for adventure which has led her around the world for the last seven years. She taught English abroad in the country of Georgia to 1st-10th graders and traveled as much as possible during those school breaks.  She then came back to the United States and moved out West to the hottest city in Arizona.  After enduring the heat and teaching kindergarten for 3 years, she and her boyfriend moved up to Northern California and settled into a cozy bungalow in Berkeley.  She is currently teaching kindergarten at a charter school in West Oakland, and loving every minute of the inner city, urban diversity.  The Bay Area has quickly become her second home and she is grateful!

Emily received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.  She then continued on to earn a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University.  She has held a variety of leadership roles within education and has learned the importance of creating healthy relationships, finding your voice and speaking up.

Emily works hard to incorporate social emotional lessons into her school curriculum and believes in the importance of teaching emotional intelligence along with mindfulness.  She is thrilled to bring this experience into Girls Leadership and believes in the necessity of empowering the girls of our future.
